June 3rd

Saturday June 3rd, 1978
Naivasha and Limuru, Kenya
This morning after breakfast we left for home.  We had not gotten very far when we had a flat.  After fixing the flat and going on a bit further we realized that the bolts had not been tightened enough.  After fixing this we looked at Margie and Randy and their trunk lid was up.  Betty was feeling better when got home.  She and Randy moved out to the assembly in a room so we would have space for Sue and her family.  Ken went to usher for the 3 o’clock and 8 o’clock shows of Andre Kole, the magician.  He was midnight getting home.

Skill sets that are handy in Africa, fixing anything!  Necessity is truly the mother of invention.    If it broke my Dad could fix it or would learn how to fix it before it broke the next time.

My cousin Randy and his wife Betty were journeymen in Kenya while we were there.  Betty delivered her first child while in Kenya.

I had a chance to usher for a big name magician so I took it.  I was so enthralled with the show that I was not much help as an usher.  Andre Kole was out here at the behest of Campus Crusade.  He performed before a packed house both nights and had a real impact in a land where “magic” comes in the form of the local medicine man.

What is a journeyman and how is it different from being a missionary? Does that sound crazy or what?

No not crazy! Check this link out on the IMB website.

Evidently Randy and Betty were some of the first and last married journeymen.
